Much has been made of comparisons of "Xena" to "Baywatch," another program which competes against it for syndication ratings. Some journalists persist in dismissing "Xena" as little more than the cleavage and legs of "Baywatch" transported to Ancient Greece. However "Xena" beat "Baywatch" and even "Hercules" in ratings early on, and regularly beats "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" with original storylines and campy, postmodern cultural allusions. Xenites bristle at the comparison between the two shows.
